1. Get A Bird’s Eye View
A great way to get a look at all of Saigon is by visiting two of the main skyscrapers that dominate the city. The first is the Bitexco Financial Tower. Found in the center downtown, this unique looking structure is one one of the modern symbols of Saigon. Visit the Saigon Skydeck, located on the 49th floor. All you need is 10 USD to get up to the deck.
Once you’re there, the view is astounding. We recommend watching the sunset from this deck while enjoying a drink at their rooftop bar. Before leaving the tower, visit the Eon Café on the 50th floor if you don’t mind expensive food.
The recently built Landmark 81 is one of the top 20 tallest towers in the world. Located 5-10 minutes from downtown in the Central Park Area, this skyscraper towers above anything else in the city. The viewing platform is from the 79th – 81st floor giving an incredible view of the city. The price to go up is 500k VND on weekdays and 800k VND weekends for adults. Kids are half price.
2. Visit the Independence Palace
This Palace was the home to the president of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Steeped in history, the Palace is still furnished with most of its original furniture. Most of the Palace is now a museum, but it still houses government meetings.
A ticket into the Palace only costs 13 USD. You can see the helicopter pad used by government officials and bunkers in the basement that were used during the war. Perhaps the most impressive thing in this Palace is the colossal round dragon carpet.
3. Go To The Cu Chi Tunnels
One of the best things to do in Saigon is to visit these tunnels. The Cu Chi Tunnels were used by guerrilla groups in Vietnam in the late 1960s. These tunnels are 30km long, stretching outside of the city. While these tunnels were closed off before, some sections of them are now open. You can now experience what soldiers and militants felt when using these tunnels. However, don’t visit this attraction if small spaces make you anxious.
4. Visit the Ben Thanh Market
When in Saigon visiting the Ben Thanh Market is easily a must for all travelers. It is one of the best things to do when in Saigon, as it is the city’s most famous market. There may be other market places that you can visit, but none are as busy or bustling as Ben Thanh.
You will find almost anything you can think of in this market. Furthermore, every price is negotiable. Make sure to haggle and bargain to get the best prices. Grab a Vietnamese coffee from one of the vendors, and explore the market at your leisure!
5. See the War Remnants Museum
Vietnam may be a bustling tourist destination today, but the country has a dark history. The War Remnants Museum contains several memorabilia from the American war that tore the country apart.
The Museum documents the horror of the wars, to showcase everything the incredible country has been through. If you’re interested in history and are ready for the anger you will feel while visiting; the War Remnants Museum is a must-visit.

6. Eat all the incredible food
If you’re a foodie, then you’re in for an absolute treat when visiting Saigon. Vietnamese cuisine is among the most delicious in the world. The culture is primarily known for its street food which is delicious.
To start you on your food journey, you can visit Nha Hang Ngon. Here several stalls get together to serve staples of Vietnamese food. Having some pho bo from here is easily one of the best things to do when in Saigon.
7. Experience the Water Puppet shows
The Water Puppet show may seem like an incredibly touristy thing to do, but provides a fascinating insight into Vietnamese culture. You can experience the exhibits at the Notre Dame cathedral or several other iconic locations in Saigon.
Each show involves puppets that are controlled from underwater. The trick is revealed at the end of every show.
8. Enjoy the rooftop bars
