Many expats in Ho Chi Minh City live in either District 2 or District 7 as these two districts have amenities that are aimed towards expats. Phu My Hung, is a modern area located in District 7, around 20-30 minutes from District 1.
Phu My Hung is quickly growing into a modern bustling metropolis, with wide tree lined streets, luxury apartments and shopping malls. Large, modern villas and compounds are readily available, guarded by the Phu My Hung Security team; it is considered one of the safest areas to live. Phu MyHung is home to many expat families and there are many Korea and Japanese living in this safe and peaceful area.
Phu My Hung is a modern and clean district
It is only in recent years that Phu My Hung has developed into the modern area we see today, development started in 1996 and much of Phu My Hung was previously swampland. When I first moved here in 2008, there were hardly any modern apartments and the first shopping mall appeared only in 2009. Wonderland Theme Park built in 1999, built to attract young people to visit the area, was an empty shell by 2008, and stood derelict for many years until Wonderland Tennis courts was built. Once again, this area is under construction with a modern apartment and park being built.
There are many great local and international schools in Phu My Hung
There are many local and International schools located in Phu My Hung, some of the top tiered International schools have campuses located here, or very close by; ABC, BIS, BVIS, Canadian, Renaissance, SSIS to name just a few. Within the immediate vicinity, are very good local Vietnamese schools, which are known for providing a higher level of education and nurturing than other schools.
Modern medical services available in the immediate area
The medical services available are very good and there are many options for world class healthcare. FV Hospital, Victoria HealthCare, Maple Healthcare and popular choices offering a wide range of international health care services. Well respected dentists, dermatologists, eye specialists and expat chiropractors are all located in this bustling district. The American Eye Centre is a highly respected eye specialist with American doctors located at Crescent Lake.
Many locals do not need to leave Phu My Hung to have a good time
Many expats and residents in Phu My Hung say that the key advantages of the area are that all utilities are available to them, without having to go into District 1. The main shopping centers are Vivo City and Crescent Mall, both malls carry international and local brands and have large supermarkets. They are within walking distance from the main apartment complexes and also feature food courts, cinemas, bowling and many more activities. Vivo City has a fantastic water play area for children. Just five minutes from Phu My Hung, there is also a Korean shopping centre, Lotte Mart and close to here Jump Arena and Vietopia play parks for children. Many of these malls offer a free shuttle service from the main apartment buildings in Phu My Hung.
Great places to eat and drink are all around!
Vietnam has a rich café and foodies culture, so you will have no trouble finding somewhere to enjoy a coffee or meal. The main coffee chains are here, like Starbucks, Gloria Jeans, Highland Coffee, Phuc Long and Café Bene and there are a number of hidden gems to satisfy your caffeine cravings.
The food options are limitless and everything you could ever want or need is within walking distance, including Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Chinese, Western, Fine Dining, Pub Grub you name it, Phu My Hung likely has it. It’s such a stark difference to five years ago, when options were very limited. A great area to enjoy dinner and a walk is Cresecent Lake, there are many options here and the view is spectacular. If you like craft beer, you can visit Saigon Craft which is located just opposite SSIS school, they have 24 beers on tap and a great food selection.
